How does mantra work
Mantra is a technique for regulating the mind. In other words, it’s a fantastic tool for meditation because it gives the mind something to lock onto (one-pointedness) allowing you to experience a deeper, more enjoyable meditation.
So if you read my article on Essential Oils, you know that everything in our world is made up of energy: you, me, a tree, your floor. And all energy vibrates. Some things, like your floor, vibrate very slowly at a low frequency, whereas other things, like your thoughts, vibrate at a much higher frequency at a rate we can’t even see. Since every thought or feeling has a vibratory frequency, we can use mantra to direct our mind to that higher frequency and resonate that energy through our entire body. But how do I direct that energy, you ask. Well, you do this through meridians, which are energetic pathways that run throughout your body.
There are 84 meridians in your mouth. Every time you speak, your tongue taps them. The beauty of mantra is that the sounds of the mantra are like codes. Your tongue taps out this repeated code and those meridians send an energetic message to your brain. The brain sends a response to the hypothalamus, the pineal gland, and the pituitary gland, which then signal your nervous and endocrine system to initiate positive changes inside you. These can be changes of habit or perspective. They can also be changes within your organ systems like calming your adrenal glands (the fight, flight, freeze response) or the circulatory system, flushing your body with more oxygenated blood.
Mantra can calm you, provide inspiration, soothe wounds of the heart, center and balance you, change habits, clear away negative thoughts, energize you, and even bust karmic chains.
As you can see, mantra is extremely powerful and uplifting.
